DISTURBED Frontman Discusses 'Asylum' Lyrics With REVOLVER TV
September 18, 2010Possum of Revolver TV caught up with David Draiman and Mike Wengren of DISTURBED to discuss the lyrics behind the band's new No. 1 album, "Asylum". "There's songs that talk about religion being a catalyst for war," David said. "There's a song called 'The Warrior' which is specifically a fight song for fighters. There's a plethora of different issues on the record. There's a song that deals with the Nazi Holocaust. There's a song that deals with the depression that's left inside of you after your relationship is going sour, being like an infection that eats away at your soul."
"Asylum" sold 179,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The band's previous three albums — 2008's platinum "Indestructible" (first-week sales: 253,000),2005's double-platinum "Ten Thousand Fists" (first-week sales: 238,000) and 2002's platinum "Believe" (first-week sales: 284,000) — also debuted at No. 1.
DISTURBED's best-selling release to date is its 2000 debut, "The Sickness", which has shifted more than four million copies in the U.S. alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
With a decade of platinum albums and high-profile touring behind them, The Pulse of Radio asked Donegan if there's anything he'd still like to accomplish. "Headline Soldier Field in Chicago, where the Bears play," he said. "I mean, that's just huge. We've played all the great venues that we grew up to seeing some of our favorite bands, but that's the next biggest thing, you know, that we haven't done. So that might take a few more years, but I think Soldier Field would be a huge accomplishment."
"Asylum" arrived in stores on August 31 in both standard and limited editions.
All editions of the album come with an one-hour documentary in either DVD or digital format called "Decade Of Disturbed".
